Breech Babes: Complication or Variation?

Dr Andrew Bisits has served since 2014 as the Director of Obstetrics at the Royal Hospital for Women, Sydney, Australia--a tertiary academic hospital that oversees 4,000 births per year. Prior to that, he served as Director of Obstetrics in Newcastle for 8 years. He has been in full-time obstetrics for 34years (including his training and residency positions). He has had a strong interest in breech birth since the term breech trial was first planned. In the research arena, he has a strong leaning towards epidemiology and biostatistics. In the clinical arena, he has participated in several initiatives to promote normal birth through helping establish primary midwifery care programs for pregnant women. He has a conjoint associate professorial position with the UNSW and is the current chair of the Australian board of ALSO (Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics)

Dr Stu Fischbein. TStuart J. Fischbein MD is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, published author of the book “Fearless Pregnancy, Wisdom & Reassurance from a Doctor, A Midwife and A Mom” and peer-reviewed papers Homebirth with an Obstetrician, A Series of 135 Out of Hospital Births and Breech birth at home: outcomes of 60 breech and 109 cephalic planned home and birth center births. Dr. Stu spent 24 years assisting women with hospital birthing and, for the last 11 years, has been a homebirth obstetrician who works directly with midwives www.birthinginstincts.com. He travels around the world as a lecturer and advocate for reteaching breech & twin birth, respect for the normality of birth and informed consent. His podcast, “Dr. Stu’s Podcast” www.drstuspodcast.com has an international following. He offers hope, reassurance and safe, evidence supported choices for those women who cannot find supportive practitioners for VBAC, twin and breech deliveries.

Kate Braye has 35 years+ midwifery experience in the UK, Sydney and Newcastle, NSW. She is an experienced facilitator for Amare Asia Pacific and regularly teaches on the Amare Becoming a breech expert (BaBE) courses around Australia. Kate has worked in all areas of maternity care and remains passionate about women’s informed, evidence based choice when considering breech birth. Kate is currently teaching at UTS and spreading the love at the high acuity John Hunter Birthing Suite. She gained a PhD in 2020.
