Walking Beside Families: Culturally Safe Bereavement Care in Practice

This webinar was recorded as a Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day Special Event. It will introduce midwives to Red Nose’s co-designed clinical resources and support services designed to improve bereavement care for vulnerable and priority population groups.

Participants will:
- Learn about Red Nose’s national grief and loss services (including 24/7 Support Line, Counselling, Peer Support, and Hospital to Home).
- Explore the suite of seven co-designed bereavement support videos, covering preparing for conversations, continuity of care, self-care, and culturally specific approaches for First Nations, CALD/refugee, rural/remote, and young mothers.
- Gain access to quick-reference Points of Care Guidelines, referral flyers, and patient-centred resources available in multiple languages.
- Understand how to embed warm handovers and culturally safe bereavement support in clinical settings.

Presenters
Amrit Dhillon – National Project Manager, Red Nose
- Experienced leader in co-design, inclusive service design, and evaluation.
- Led the Healing Through Community (HTC) project, embedding cultural safety and lived experience in clinical and community bereavement support.
- Passionate about building partnerships with health professionals, communities, and peak bodies to ensure equitable support for families across Australia.

Megan Warren; Bereavement Support Worker, Red Nose
Megan is a mother of five, experiencing multiple miscarriages, stillbirths and a neonatal death between 1998 and 2005. Megan and her family were supported in their grief by Red Nose during this difficult time. She became a peer supporter with Red Nose as a way of giving back to the community who had so generously supported her.
Megan has a background in administration and she is currently a PhD candidate in Creative Writing with Deakin University writing about her experience of stillbirth and pregnancy loss.
Since September 2021 Megan has been a Bereavement Support Worker with Red Nose Hospital to Home Phoebe Joan Program providing bereavement support to families who have experienced the loss of a baby or child in rural and remote Australia.
