This evidence based professional development activity is delivered in three parts. PARTS 1 and 3 comprise a series of PowerPoint presentations with follow-up discussions and other group activities for participative learning, and reflection on practice. PART 2 comprises an open-book assignment. The learning activities are based on the latest research evidence and reflect current best practice in fertility awareness counselling.

PART 1: Participants will establish the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to teach fertility awareness (knowledge of the fertile window of the menstrual cycle) in all menstrual cycle situations from menarche´ to menopause. 

PART 2 (Open-book assignment): Participants will consolidate the knowledge and skills gained in PART 1 on fertility awareness methods and practice interpreting complex fertility charts.

PART 3: Participants will establish a comprehensive knowledge of the common modifiable lifestyle risk factors that negatively impact fertility health and the chance of conceiving (e.g., cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, under- and over ideal weight, poor diet and lack of exercise) and learn the skills of motivational interviewing to facilitate sustainable behavioural changes to optimise natural conception, pregnancy health, and reduce the risk for chronic diseases in parents and their children.

Dr Kerry Hampton is a highly qualified and experienced nurse/midwife fertility awareness counselling and education. She is an active researcher in her field having completed her PhD on the topic in 2014.  Her publications are cited in both national and international peer review journals.
