From the Western Sydney Branch Chair
Hello from the Western Sydney Branch of the ACM
Western Sydney spreads over a vast area extending including 5 highly populated Local Government Areas. Within these areas lie 3 public Hospitals (Auburn, Westmead, and Blacktown) and 2 private Hospitals (Westmead Private and Norwest Private). This is a very culturally diverse part of Sydney, with a population of more than 1.3 million residents. Collectively across all sites, there were 14635 births in 2020, which accounted for 16% of all births in NSW. (NSW Mother and Babies Report 2020)
In 2023, a number of members gathered to plan and develop a local Branch with the goal of promoting and supporting midwives across all Western Sydney sites.
Some of our agreed goals and strategies are:
- Network with like-minded people
- Plan and coordinate social and professional events- e.g., IDM activities, educational activities, socials
- Promote and support NSW Ministry initiatives
- Share ideas, models, and experiences
- Explore more ways to support women in our area
- Support students by mentoring
- Have a strong combined voice to Executive of our workplaces
- Promote and support quality improvement and research activities
