  • A Nurse Grade 6 is a Dual Registered Nurse and Midwife who:
  • Provides nursing and/or midwifery services in health service settings; and
  • Is responsible for a portfolio with a focus on clinical care/leadership, management, education and/or research.
  • The activities required of roles at this level are predominantly clinical in nature, but also provide support to a Nurse Grade 7 or above in management activities.
Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS) is in southeast Queensland and extends through the coastal and hinterland areas from Caloundra in the south to Gympie in the north.

The Clinical Nurse & Clinical Midwife (CN&CM) role is to lead and deliver women centred nursing care at an advanced level based on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Registered Nurse Standards for Practice. The CN&CM is expected to be able to practice autonomously and provide leadership in clinical decision making. They have the responsibility for professional leadership in the absence of the Nurse Grade 7 and an opportunity to work collaboratively to lead practice changes and clinical innovation.
The Women’s Health Unit in Gympie is a 12 physical bed unit with 2 Birth Suites. It is a Level 3 Service Capability Facility and does an average of 300 births per year. The unit accommodates female surgical patients as well as female medical outliers. All nursing and midwifery staff work in antenatal, postnatal and birth suite areas as well as caring for the surgical and medical patients. Our referral centres are Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
The Clinical Nurse/Clinical Midwife reports to the Nurse Unit Manager of the Maternity/Women’s Health and Paediatric Units Gympie Hospital.
