NT Branch

From the NT Branch Chair

We are a small bit mighty group of Midwives in the NT. Most of us are here because we love the energy and environment we live in as well as the amazing work we do and the women we work with.

Over 30% of birthing women in the NT are Aboriginal and it is a privilege and an honour to walk alongside them and support them in the pregnancy birth and post natal journey.  We also learn from their ways and the strength of the world's longest living culture.

Women birth in one of four public hospitals and one private hospital across the NT, or at home with either government funded homebirth services or private midwifery. Darwin is our biggest referral unit, Alice Springs being our second, followed by Nhulunbuy (Gove) and Katherine. But of course, women live all across the Territory and we have midwives working in communities as small as a few hundred residents all the way up to Darwin where 230,000 people live on the doorstep of Asia.

We welcome all midwives to join our family. The NT Branch members meet the last Monday of every month from 5-6pm via zoom. You don’t have to be a member of the executive to join, we welcome all midwives. Email us at [email protected] to access the zoom link.

We also welcome our interstate midwifery colleagues to reach out if you think you are ready for the NT experience. There are endless opportunities to come and visit us – either as a tourist, a short-term contract or a longer stint. We will always happily help in working out how to find the right place for you to come and see the amazing NT.
