About the Role:
Are you an experienced Registered Midwife looking for your next challenge? Are you ready to jump into clinical leadership? Then we are looking for you!
Canberra Hospital is a level 6 tertiary centre providing specialised maternity care to approximately 3800 women per year. You will work in a growing health care service that includes a new Critical Services Building that will provide state of the art services to Canberra and the surrounding regions.

We are looking for Registered Midwife’s to work across their full scope of practice in the following areas:
• Antenatal
• Postnatal
• Birthing
• Continuity (CBR Midwives Program)
• Maternity and Gynaecology Outpatients

POSITION OVERVIEW.
In accordance with the ACT Public Sector Nursing and Midwifery Enterprise Agreement, this is an opportunity for permanent Registered Midwives (RM) Level 1 to apply for personal reclassification to RM Level 2, based on their experience, skill and ability. This opportunity applies only to the applicant’s current area of specialty.
Eligibility/Other Requirements:
Relevant Registered Midwife qualifications and a minimum of five years’ post graduate nursing experience is required.

The successful applicant will need to:
• Be a Permanent Officer at the Registered Midwife Level 1 Classification for Canberra Health Services
• Have attended an information session regarding Level 2 Career advancement within the two years prior to application;
• Have completed 100% of their mandatory training;
• Have a current FOCIS-SED (Strengths, Engagement and Development) Plan which includes Level 2 Career advancement goals;
• Have minimum five years full time equivalent post graduate experience including recent relevant experience within the specialty area (this will be assessed by hours worked which must be 8550 hours at a minimum). (International experience may be considered in line with the Australian Qualifications Framework)
• participated in quality improvement initiatives or other similar activity (e.g. auditing, standard champion)

Duties:
Under limited direction of the relevant Unit Manager you will perform at an advanced nursing level and will:

• Facilitate clinical teaching, support and supervision within the workplace following practice standards and policies.
• Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge, clinical expertise and assessment skills to make clinical decisions and to evaluate outcomes of own practice.
• Ensure through role modelling the development of an appropriate customer focussed workplace culture.
• Supports team leadership role in identifying issues, acts as a resource or preceptor for registered nurses and enrolled nurses.
• Identify and contribute in risk management, quality improvement, nursing practice review and clinical research activities.
• Comply with the relevant legislation, code of ethics, codes of practice and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council National Competency Standards.
• Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
