Towards 2015: College Vision

Our vision is to be the leading organisation shaping Australian maternity care

The College is the peak professional body for Australian midwives, which strives to maximize the quality of midwifery and maternity care for Australian women and their families through:

• Providing a unified political voice for the midwifery profession.
• Supporting midwives to reach their full potential.
• Ensuring all childbearing women have access to continuity of care by a known midwife.
• Setting professional practice and education standards.

  • The College’s work is guided by the following values:

    Ethical practice
       • Applying evidence to everything we do.
       • Following our code of ethics, conduct, practice and standards.
    Collaboration
       • Working cooperatively with external groups and respecting their role and interaction.
       • Listening, hearing, discussing and passing the agreed message on.
       • Protecting those who are not present and talking to the source.
    Trusting and respectful relationships
       • Treating each other as we would wish to be treated.
    Respect diversity
       • Respecting a person’s right to have a different opinion.
    Innovation
       • Be open to new ideas and understand that there is always another way and that anything is possible.
       • Striving for continuous improvement.

Our key strategic goals for 2015 are:

To be an accessible, efficient and transparent organisation providing valued services to members.
That all Australian midwives will be members of the College.
To provide consistent and timely political representation to influence policy development and decision-making at national, state and local levels.
To ensure midwifery is recognized as a Public Health Strategy, with a view to ensuring all childbearing women have access to maternity care by a known midwife.
To achieve national standards for Midwifery education and practice that are internationally recognised and endorsed by regulators, educators, employers and the midwifery profession.
Support Australian midwives to maximize their potential to provide best practice through evidence based care.
To have a unified national business structure which operates on best business principles.
  • Our national strategies for achieving these goals will be outlined in five consecutive
2 year business plans, developed in consultation with the College Branches and membership.
