Branch News

This letter is to inform you of the current ACM, WA Branch position regarding legal cover with Dwyer & Durack. This cover was initially setup to assist midwives who require legal assistance relating to a professional issue. This type of cover is not offered by any other ACM Branch in Australia.

Currently the Branch pays $22,280 per year ($5,570 per quarter) to Dwyer & Durack for legal cover. This cover provides initial legal meeting free then members have to pay a negotiated fee for the rest of the legal proceedings. This $22,280 also covers things like wills, divorce similar to the ANF coverage except not so extensive. Membership fees would need to increase in order for the WA Branch to sustain this continued payment to Dwyer & Durack.

The WA Branch executive is recommending the cessation of this cover and would like to ask the members for their opinion. If the members do not respond to this questionnaire by the 27th February 2009 the executive will conclude that this recommendation is accepted.

Welcome to the Australian College of Midwives WA Branch Blog

Blogging is an ever increasing trend it can be personal or corporate – Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal that is frequently updated it is like journaling or reflecting, the only difference is that the world reads what you are writing. It would be beneficial to keep the ANMC Code of Ethics and Conduct in mind when writing/publishing or responding to comments made on this site.

This blog has been created for you to access current information relating to Midwifery; it is also a forum for all midwives to have discussions about anything you would like to talk about. Hopefully we will draw midwives from the rural, country, and private sector into the forums to share experiences, ideas and information. Students are most welcome and are encouraged to contribute to these forums.

We will keep you up to date with current events and welcome your contributions, or if you just want a friendly chat or gossip all is welcome.

Future plans: we will look at organising a regular coffee session for some face to face contact.

All posts & comments will be moderated before being published, if you would like something published please email the information with your contact details to infomidwife.paulinerose@gmail.com The WA Branch looks forward to hearing from you soon, thanks for your time your cyber midwife.
