Board of Directors

ACM Board 2007-2008

At the Annual General Meeting on 3rd November 2006, a special resolution was passed which changed the structure of the National Executive Committee.

The name of the National Executive Committee (NEC) has now changed to Board of Directors and the name of members of that committee from ‘delegate’ to ‘director’. This will help the members of the College’s peak decision-making body to focus on their legal responsibilities in considering the issues and make decisions in the interests of all members.

The Board of Directors is made up of eight members, one elected by members from each State and Territory. The primary role of the Board is to provide the strategic advice, direction and leadership for the College. This includes ensuring that the staff and committee members are adequately supported and engaged in fulfilling their various roles and responsibilities.

Governance of the College is increasingly important as we expand our functions and productivity to ensure that the College grows, and that we meet the needs of our members.

The College’s first Board of Directors are:

Pat Brodie NSW
President

I was elected as National President in November 2005. I enjoy the role and appreciate the responsibility as well as the privilege that I am afforded. I hope to make a significant contribution during my term as President to the success of the College and the reform of maternity services nationally.

Chris Cornwell SA
Vice President

Being part of the board of our College has provided me with such wonderful experiences of meeting midwives from all over Australia. To hear of the work, challenges and successes of others, to realize that even with the differences of our State and Territory federated system, we all share the same goal. The goal of ensuring the best system and care for child bearing women, through the recognition and further professionalisation of midwifery.

Through my involvement on the board I have been able to disseminate information about local, state and national issues. No matter what the practice setting, all midwives should be encouraged and asked to participate in decisions about the College and the future of midwifery.
